Shaking off the Shackles of Fear!

reception_sketch

Artists Sketch, of reception area, The Neem Tree 3 - more on my blog.

Did you start the year full of gusto? Did you have some amazing plans to change your world? Did you set your resolutions to make that change you want and needed to?

And now a few weeks in, things are getting tougher, or you have already broken your resolution, just 3 weeks in.

According to Wikipedia (so it must be right!) only 12% of people achieve their goals they set at new year. So does that mean you should give up? and wait for next January to re-set your goals?

Absolutely not.

My own experience has shown me that when i failed to achieve my goals, it was down to me going back to my old habits. After all, going back to old habits was much easier than forming new habits and striving for my goals.

Yet by not achieving my goals i felt like a failure, after all, i gauged my level of success by achieving my goals.

In my day to day life I meet and speak to a lot of dentists. Some who set goals and then give up at the first hurdle, whilst others who step up to the challenge to try and meet their goals. The latter group are the ones who i find most fulfilled about their lot.

I meet Principal dentists wanting to move away from the NHS, Associates wanting to set up their own show, but quite often i meet many of these same people each year in the same position. They have not done anything about their dreams and aspirations and are fearful about change. They aren't happy with their lot, but are scared about doing anything about it.

Experience has taught me life is precious and short. None of us can predict the future, even what will happen in UK dentistry? But if you want to shake off those shackles of fear and make the change you desire, now is as good as time as any.The right time will never arise, so why not take action now?

Will it be difficult? Probably

Will it take longer than you hope? Probably

Will it be scary? Probably.

However, procrastinating over your dreams and aspirations may turn out to be your biggest regret. So don't let regret get you.

Think big, whatever maybe important to you, and go for it, and don't look back! Make this January your most important start to your new year!

If you need help in achieving your goals and dreams, we are only a phone call away....

The Neem Tree 3 - Watch it progress on my blog

Just recently, I received an email from an Associate dentist asking why we (The Neem Tree) were setting up a third site in such an economic environment ? Wasn't this financially a bad decision? Obviously he was fearful about the current economic conditions.

My response to him, was that we felt we had sufficient experience and knowledge to make a success of a private site. We had made plenty of mistakes previously but this had given us the experience to feel strong enough to step up to the challenges ahead. Besides, if we waited until the UK economy recovered, we may have a very long wait!

As we develop The Neem Tree 3 over the coming months, i will be updating my blog with progress including photo's, sketches and also further details including the many problems we encounter (it has not been plain sailing yet!). Take look it will be a full account of how the project is moving ahead, with a lot of information to learn from. If you want to get an idea of whats involved in setting up a practice, have a read, if you want to know much more then get yourself on our hands on programme - read below.

HMRC launch Tax Health Plan

As a drive to recover more tax from dentists and doctors, HMRC have launched the Tax Health Plan (THP). This new scheme enables dentists to declare to HMRC any undeclared tax and will run from 11th January 2010 to 30 June 2010 inclusive.

Under THP, individuals will have the opportunity to make a full disclosure of all unpaid taxes and will have to pay late interest with a 10% penalty.

Under this scheme HMRC hope to obtain further tax and will be liaising with various third parties (including the NHS) to obtain information about individuals and their income.

From April 2010, HMRC will carry out targeted investigations into the tax affairs of dentists who have not come forward under THP, however, THP allows dentists one last chance to bring their tax affairs in order on the best available terms. After this, HMRC will not be offering such available terms.

This naturally is a sensitive area, but if you require any help in this matter or want further information please get in touch with us, as our team is equipped to help you in dealing with HMRC in this matter.

Wishing you a brllliant week!
